Ask the AI about your documents

Open the assistant, ask a question about the data room, check the cited sources, refine, and share the conversation with a colleague.

Show me in the app

A first question about the documents takes a minute and shows the assistant's habits: it answers from the room, cites where each fact comes from, and lets you open the source without leaving the conversation.

Before you start

  • You are a Member or Admin of the organisation with access to the project. Guests cannot use the assistant.
  • The documents you want to ask about show Ready in Files.

Steps

  1. Open the project and select Search or ask AI… in the header, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows). Type your question and press Enter; a new conversation opens in the panel on the right.

  2. Ask about the documents the way you would ask an analyst: Summarise the board minutes and list every decision about financing. The assistant reads everything you can open, internal Workspace files included, so name the Dataroom section, folder or document when the answer should rest on those alone. While the answer streams, Stop generating halts it and asks what to do differently.
  3. Read the citations. Select one to open the page or cell range in the preview panel beside the answer; the highlighted passage is what the assistant relied on. Restricted source marks a document you cannot open.
  4. Refine in the same conversation: ask for a table, a comparison across documents, or the passage a claim rests on. Tables and documents the assistant builds appear in Artifacts on the right.
  5. To hand the conversation to a colleague, open ⋮ › Share, add people or teams and select Share. They read it; Fork to continue privately gives them their own copy to carry on.

Check the result

The conversation appears under Recent in the thread list with a title taken from your first question, and reopens from there or from /chat. Shared readers see a Shared read-only conversation banner.

If something goes wrong

The assistant says it cannot find a document you can see

The file may still be Processing, or it is a format the app stores but does not read, such as an image or a ZIP. Check its status in Files; see Upload problems.

Sharing is refused

Can't share: … must first have access to the project and any documents referenced in this conversation. Give the colleague access to the project and the cited folders, then share again.

The panel shows You're out of credits

Your organisation's credit balance is empty. An admin adds credits under Plans & credits; nothing in the conversation is lost.

The AI wants to … card blocks the composer

The assistant proposed an action that changes the project. Select Allow or Deny; the conversation continues either way.
